Viraha Tithis

Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj explains the importance of disappearance days.

Today Srila Raghunath Das Goswami, Srila Raghunath Bhatta Goswami, and Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami must be merciful to us. In service to our Guru Maharaj we are trying as possible by us to glorify them.

suna, he rasika-jana    krishna guna aganana
    ananta kahite nahi pare
      (Kalyana-kalpa-taru: Guna-kirtana, 2.1)

No one can properly glorify the Vaishnava. So what can I say to you? I am always waiting for the mercy, the causeless mercy, of the Vaishnavas. I have no qualification. Causeless mercy is my only hope. It is the only hope for many other also.

You have come from so far away to search for Krishna consciousness, and you are getting that consciousness through Guru and Vaishnava. We try to glorify them on their disappearance days. It is written in the scriptures that both the appearance days and disappearance days of the Vaishnavas are holy (pavitra).

You have seen the name of Srila Guru Maharaj’s Temple in Nabadwip. I gave this name: The Temple of Union in Separation. Separation is the highest thing in devotional life. When very strong feelings of separation come to us then we see the holy form of our Guru Maharaj, of Krishna and Mahaprabhu. The viraha tithis, days of separation, bring very important feelings into our hearts. Through those feelings we remember the character of the Vaishnava, our Guru Maharaj, the Pancha Tattva, and Radha-Krishna. We remember Them all in one way.

Today I am trying to express my heart at the lotus feet of the Vaishnavas. They must give me their causeless mercy. We are all unqualified. We cannot properly respect the Vaishnavas, but by their mercy we will become qualified. I have no doubt about that.
